Probate is the legal process which provides for the orderly distribution of a deceased person's property. Whether court action is required depends on how (in what legal form) the deceased's property was owned. The death of a loved one is a traumatic event and usually no immediate legal action is required. However, if you do have questions, one of our attorneys will be available to answer them.
On your first visit, you should bring with you the following: (1) death certificate (if available); (2) the names and addresses of the spouse and of all children the deceased had; (3) a list of known assets (exact amounts are not required) and (4) a list of any known creditors. At this meeting, we can then discuss what needs to be done to transfer the deceased's property and what the estimated fee will be.
